I am 57yrs old and have AVR due to aortic stenosis. I am currently living in Honolulu on work assignment but my home is in the San Diego Area. I found out about my problem about 5 years ago. At that time they gave me a Cath and said it looked like about 5 more years before I would need surgery. In Sept of this year I started feeling chest discomfort when I exercised. I went in and got another Cath and the Doc said valve area was down to .62cm2 and I needed AVR. So here I am in Oct. still trying to decide where to get the surgery and what type of Valve. The surgeon and hospital here in Honolulu look ok but I keep thinking I want the best so I am perusing Cleveland Clinic. I have decided for now that I really do NOT want a mechanical Valve (Don't want blood thinning) so I am leaning toward a tissue valve. So over the next couple of months I am sure I will be on the site getting help and options making up my mind what to do.
