Well, I have finally broken the barrier of pain after my oral surgery. Almost 7 days worth.

They put me back on my Coumadin last Tuesday (along with Lovenox). Have had 3 loading doses as well as higher than usual daily doses to get my INR up there. Still 2.0 ish. Have not been eating much of anything. My food of choice is yogart. Which under regular circumstances....is not an issue.

Now I am starting to wonder if the pain meds kept me down? Have not had a need for pain management since last night. Has anyone experienced a lower INR while taking Vicodin? Tylenol was just not cutting it for the bone pain.

TY

Gina, glad to hear your are doing better. I'm never able to keep Vicodin down long enough to have ti absorb well, so I can't comment in the effect on INR.

Vicodin does not usually make much difference in the INR but the Tylenol in it would probably cause the INR to increase if anything (but the effect is slight.)

Thank you Karlynn. It's been heck on wheels. Have a very low pain tolerance to begin with :(

Al, thank you. It may be nothing more than my stuborn self after coming off completely. It takes forever to come up. And a day to come down. They just called in my 3rd refill of Lovenox

Gina, that is pretty typical of someone who takes a large dose of warfarin. It drops quickly and is slow to go back up. This is why you need a large dose, you metabolize warfarin very rapidly. On the positive side, people like you rarely have INRs above 8.

Thanks AL, they had me take 10MG twice last week. Yesterday and today another 10. Hoping by the weekend it will come up. I joked with the nurse about having a glass of wine to push it along ;) Both of us would like to see myself off the Lovenox! Good news....my surgical site is healing just fine. Oral surgeon just cut me loose. Ya hoo!

Hey Gina ,
I was on vicodan too! Maybe that was keeping my INR down too!
Who knew  They were more concered that the antibodic would bring it up too fast but it didn't happen. But I know all my Dr's will agree that I have never followed the norm for anything  Iam glad you are feeling better.HE they put my left arm a sling to keep from using it, & to keep from having a third operation. Mike has to help me get dressed there is so much you can do with one hand. Mike has a harder time trying to hook my bra than I do trying to get it off with one hand. It almost funny in a way. Just put all the man out there in his place. He told me I had to wear pull up pants when I go out because he wasn't going to the restroom to help me pull up my pants. I went to the Dr. last week and and he had button my blouse up wrong! :) the girls in the lab got a big laugh out of it!
