Can anyone tell me if there is anything OTC we coumadin people can take for a cold or sinus problem. I used to take Advil cold and sinus, guess that is OUT now. Any suggestions?

Karen,
I got a cold starting about a week ago. I called and asked my cardio what to take and he told me that I could use plain Robitussin cough medicine and regular Benadryl and of course Tylenol. I was told NO Decongestants! I'm on Coumadin also. He did tell me it could affect my INR if use for a long period of time. I don't know if this is true for all Coumadin users or is each person different depending on the different meds they take. I only know what I can take based on my meds. I take hormone pills, thyroid pills, an coated 325mg asprin beside the Coumadin. If you're on any other heart medicines what you could take may be different. You may want to give the doctors office a call and find out what they say.

When I get a cold I was told to try and suffer thru it. The
medications could have an effect on my blood and heart.
I take tylenol and just good old rest. If I have a sore throat
I see the doctor and he does a throat swab to check for
strep. Just check with your doctor and your pharmasist
(They are good at offering advise on medications).
Hope this helps!
