View Full Version : Uploading photos yet again

Hank --
I haven't got it right on uploading a photo into my message with the IMG button. I read through the previous posts on this forum about photos (unless I missed something) and found lots of exchange about trying to make it work -- e.g. Mike's efforts -- but no place where How To Do It is laid out. That also doesn't seem to be presented in the FAQ, though there is one on avatars.
Could you refer me to a place where the ABCs of attaching photos (which apparently have to be uploaded to a website -- right?) are laid out for us web-challenged folks? Mightn't it be a good idea to include a FAQ on just this issue, or a How To technical section somewhere on the site? (Again, maybe it's there and I have missed it.)
Thanks!
Peter

Use the "Attach File" link towards the bottom of the screen where you compose your message. Just browse to the picture. Once selected, it should show up in your post.
This is my son Luke doing what he does best.

Love that picture! I'll try one of my own of the younger generation below to see if I've got the routine right.

Wow! I got an image to appear on my screen after the label "Peter Easton has attached this image" but it's humongus, true Cinerama. There is obviously a size issue that I am missing. How do I reduce it to the appropriate size?

Such beautiful children. The sleep of the young is just so awesomely peaceful. And the 'prom night' lady is just beautiful. A lovely young lady.
Keep trying, Peter. YOu are getting there.

Finally got it. The trick was to resize the photo to about 300 x 300 pixels.
I suggest that a question-and-answer be added to the "FAQ" part of the website for dummies like me -- something like:
How do I insert a photo or image into my message?
First, make sure the picture that you want to insert from your hard disk is an appropriate size. Anything more than about 300 x 300 pixels will give an image too large to be easily viewed. In most photo editing and photo viewing software you can resize your photo or image and then save it under a new name.
Next go to the "Attach file" section of the message (or reply) form and click on "Browse" (unless you want to spell out the path to your image by typing it directly into the box). When you have located the image in the browse dialogue box, click on "Open." Once this is completed and you have finished your message, click on "submit reply" (or "new thread" if you are starting a new one) at the bottom. Voilą!

I didn't know this was the place for pictures. Luke looks very well behaved, probably due to his pretty nice parents. I know his mother and she is definitely good looking, just not very humble.

But then, how do you get the photo over at the side under your name like Peter has his family picture in the place where an avatar would go rather than in the body of a message?

Go into your user control panel, edit options, and set the picture as your avatar. You'll have to upload it from your computer. ;)

If you or anyone else would like me to take care of making your avatar image (the little one below your username), then just email me a photo and I'll take care of it.
I'm gonna get right on yours Lorraine!

My Adobe Photo editor only allows me to specify size of photo in inches (height and width). Only the resolution seems to be expressed in pixels.
Can someone clarify what size 300x300 pixels would be in inches?

Hi Hank,
I tried to add my own Avatar from the pictures from the reunion. I saved it as a JPG file so it was compatible but my pixels were way too big. Is there a way I can reduce the pixels? When I tried this earlier today I hadn't read this thread. You obviousely were thinking of me on Dec 31 when you said you would get right to it. I just thought I would save you some time if I could do it myself but now I'm stuck again. I also got a picture with some friends and myself that I was hoping maybe I could crop that picture and use it, but I'm still experimenting. I don't the stuff straight forward but I can usually figure things out. I'll wait patiently as i know you are busy. By the way, your son looks adorable. You and Michelle make beautiful children.

Great picture, Lorraine. Isn't it nice we now know what we all look like - well, some of us, anyhow. I have waited since this new site came up in June 2001 to finally get mine on. Try to always be the last one on the bus. lol
