Hi,

I am a new poster to this forum. I think this is the right place to post this question, but if not, just let me know.

I have a mechanical heart valve because of which I have to take Coumadin daily. I use Roche's CoaguChek to monitor my INR. I regularly have to purchase the strips and controls for the CoaguChek machine.

I assume a lot of people here buy the strips and controls. Does your medical insurance cover them, at least partially? If so, could you tell me a bit more details? What medical insurance do you have? Who do you purchase from? How did you get the insurance to cover it?

I have GHI. Until fairly recently, I was buying the strips and controls from Roche. At that time, GHI covered a small amount, but at least they covered something. Fairly recently, Roche stopped selling them directly and referred me to Tapestry Medical (coagnow.com / tapestrymedical.com). Now, my insurance does not cover these products at all. I have tried contacting Tapestry a couple of times. They do not reply to their emails and they were not of any help on the phone.

Any thoughts, ideas, or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have used Roche Coaguchek for about five years. I also was switched to Tapestry for purchase of strips and controls. I think the switch was about a year ago.

Great West Healthcare covers them 70%. I pay Tapestry and file the insurance myself. Tapestry does not file insurance.

Also, I have Tapestry deliver to my office address to avoid having the stuff sit on the hot Texas front steps all day.
