View Full Version : Missed a Dose! What do I do?

I'm almost 5 weeks post-op and have been doing well with my medications, but last night I forgot to take my coumadin! (I blame it on the fact that we had high school graduation yesterday and were quite busy.)
This week I've been taking 4 mg. one day, 5 mg. the next because I was at 4.4 at my last check a week ago. Prior to that I've been in my 2.5-3.5 range every time.
Any thoughts on what I should do? Do I skip the missed dose, or take it now and another one tonight?
Thanks for any input you can provide about this!!!

The advice I've always gotten is to go ahead and take the missed dose as soon as you can and then resume your normal schedule.

If you discover you missed a dose within 12 hours, go ahead and take the missed dose.
Beyond 12 hours, I divide the missed dose by 2 or 3 and add that amount to my daily dose for the next (2 or 3) days. By the end of the 3rd day, your total dose will be back on track.

I would say yes, you don't want to miss another dose. Wait for the experts to chime in tho and they will tell you what to do.

If you took the missed one within the first 12 hours, yes, go ahead with your normal.

It is almost always better to be too high than too low.
