just thought I'd throw this suggestion out there.

You've been told that in post-op rehab you need to continue using your inspirator at home 4 times a day, 10 times each. This will do two things for you. Of course it will help to keep your lungs clear of congestion, but also will be one of the MAIN factors in accelerating your return to normal lung expansion (if you are like me, you'll probably notice that your chest doesn't rise and fall like it used to).

So .... do it

But here is a way to remind you to do it periodically throughout the day.
Keep your inspirorator ride by your computer. Do the first of the X4 repeats WHILE your computer is booting up in the morning. Then if you are also like me, you don't sit at the computor all day long, but may visit it 3 or 4 times a day. Reach for it each time just after sitting down and as you are beginning to surf the web.

Good thought, DB.

Just as important is to watch your posture. Sitting and standing straight vs. in a slouched posture will greatly encourage you to use more of your lung capacity all the time. When you lounge in a "C" position, you keep the bottom lobes of your lungs from expanding, which makes them great places for holding fluid and infections.

Chest out, shoulders back!

Best wishes,

....for the tips on how to get top lung expansion. I think my heart is doing fine, but I can most definitely tell when I haven't been religious about my lung exercises! I have my incentive spirometer here with me right now!!! Exhale, valvereplacement one, valvereplacement two, valverepalcement three!
