Ok, every year I finish the More 1/2 marathon and as I cross the finish line vow to never run this stupid distance again. So, here's this year's results....
I finished the race.
That's the good part.
I finished it 30 minutes faster than last year. (another good thing)
Last year I walked it 3 months after OHS.
I wanted to do 11-12 minute miles this year and finish feeling good.
This year,I thought I would throw up and die on the way home.(Not such a good thing)
I finished it doing 13 minute miles which occured because at mile 8 my body said "you promised you'd never do this again;we are leaving!" This left me with just my brain and will to get me through the rest of the race. Luckily my brain is Irish and my will is Italian so we did it!
There are lots of variables which affected my race which I will not bore you guys with. Once again, we learn from our mistakes. I realize that I cannot cut corners anymore with training or race day (used to be able to power through and do fine, wow, what a kick in the head!)
I am not discouraged. My variable have nothing to do with the gift of OHS or a new valve;which allow me to continue racing in the first place. I guess I need to pay better attention to my training. I learned that real life sometimes gets in the way of a run or ride planned and race expectaions need to be adjusted accordingly.
It's funny; immediately after OHS I really was diligent about HR training and strict with all aspects of running/riding. As time went by I figured I was way better and didn't need to be so strict. Wrong!!!! What I learned is that 1 year later, you can not go back to doing more with less;you got to get by with giving more than before in training.
Don't worry Team ValveReplacement; I am back on track and recommitted to my orignal goal of a successful/healthy 2006 race season!!
It's 10:30 and I need to get to bed!!( I have to ride tomorrow!)
