Dear friends: yesterday I went to see my surgeon Dr. Rosenbloom a.k.a. "the wizard".
It was the first time since I had my release from the Hospital less than two month ago after my AVR with ON-X valve.
He told me that I looked fine and the scar of M.I.Surgery (horizontal 4" incision on the right side of chest, 2" abv. nipple to be accurate) was healing
perfect!
In a certain sense I felt proud of myself, because I encouraged the cardio-surgeon to use the Onyx valve (which he couldn't hear with his naked ear).
In my case he ventured in using ON-X, because he is very conservative towards innovations so I was the first !
I didn't feel as a Guinea pig and he said from that moment on he adopted ON-X for all his cases AVR whenever possible!
He also asked me about cooperating with him in some events (to help people in need of this kind of surgery) to diminish fear, panic, depression, despair and so on!
Some motivational chat as they call.
On the other hand he authorized my return to the tennis courts (less
than 2 month after the surgery!!!), but I am a little scared about that,
but I am going to re-start little by little!
And so my surgeon gave me the release and my life is coming back to
normality after all!.;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Hey Daniel. That's a lot of bravery for one little group of people. I'm so glad that you were open to the new wave of valve fixes!
Congratulations on your seemingly PERFECT post-op visit with the surgeon! Best wishes for continuing success!
You can certainly get some practice with your motivational chat here with us.....I'm sure I'll be needing some in a few weeks!! :D How encouraging and complimentary to have your doctor direct you in that way!

What a wonderful visit with your surgeon. Dick was told he could start playing tennis at 3 months and did- hitting with a few buddies slowly at first, but into his regular daily game of doubles within a few days. He also was playing golf and riding his bike 10-12 miles at that point. I'm sure your surgeon wants you to be a spokesman because you are such a model patient. Go for it and enjoy your new healthy body!:D

Besides all the above mentioned I, discussed with my Cardio-surgeon
items of philosophical order:
Now that I am a cyborg, no longer a100% human, how should be my relations with ordinary humans?
Am I more than human or less than human?
Should I follow the laws of humans or the laws of robots enounced by Isaac Asimov decades ago?.
Please, help me with all this!

Daniel,
Unless that is one MIGHTY BIG ON-X valve you're sporting, using a parts/whole ratio, I think you still qualify as human.;) ;) ;)
Think of the people who have had limbs replaced by prostheses, and you'll realize that you are a latecomer to the "mechanical" scene.:p :p :p

Great news Daniel....
excellent recovery story there:D
I used to not care about what brand of mechanocal valve I get...but I have seen alot of posts about the ON-X lately and am beginning to wonder if I should take a bit more interest in what they put in me?

Hi Archcre
I'm sceduled for surgery just like yours on April 16, 2008. I beleive with the same Dr. Rosenbloom.....the Wizard huh? That sounds promising! Is it Michael Rosenbloom, 45-50ish? If so we have him in Jersy now at Cooper Healthcare. I've heard he's one of the best in the country. What do you think? He was talking about snding me back to work after a month...I was amazed...talked him into giving me off till July so I can recoop doing some hiking and kayyaking. Do you think that's realistic? I have some other questions if you wouldn't mind.

Drawing on my experience, I can't think of an activity more likely to cause sternum grief one month post op, than kayaking.  If this Drs technique allows that, then he is indeed a wizard. :)

Great news ! Im 4 weeks post op today and see my cardiologist 2 weeks from Monday. Im hoping to also be released back to work/driving/exercising. My golf league starts at the end of April which will be about 8 weeks post-op and Im hoping I can play. My wife is fretting because the doc says 3 months till I swing a club, allow the sternum to fully heal. Im going to take out a club the week before and just take a few swings to see how it feels.

You may be better off sending archkre (Last Activity: April 9th, 2007 08:03 PM) a private message. This thread is nearly 2 years old. The other is to simply go ahead with the questions and I'll move part of this to it's own thread. :)

Tennis, golf, kayaking....I can't think of much that is more stressful on a freshly healing sternum.

With the "non invasive method" sternum remains flawless!;) ;)
