1. I am fascinated with meeting new people, and learning about his or her lives.
2. Because I have made a great bunch of friends that share the same common issue that I have.)
3. That ADORABLE picture of Granbonny and her Russian Blessin's.
4. The Humor and the fun of all the people here.
5. Need I say more?

Two very selfish reasons:
1. I feel very secure knowing that when I have a question about Dick's health I have a place that I trust to come for advice and support.
2. I find it very rewarding to help others in any way I can- by giving back the same support and what little advice I have to offer.

..it is what kept me sane 4 months ago when the rug was pulled from under my feet when I found out that not only did I have a valve problem I never knew about before BUT that is was serious enough to require open heart surgery ASAP.
I was here constantly, looking for information, telling people how scared I was... Everytime I posted, someone posted back with answers to my questions and/or reassurance that I would be able to go through OHS.
But best of all,in that short time, I saw posters post pre-op, have surgery, then come back and post post-op. That was really what kept me sane. I could I help not love VR.com.

I love VR.Com because the members of this website pulled me/us through the darkest, scariest time in our lives.

besides the obvious reasons for being here.....
helps to come in during the wee hours when you can't sleep and are in crisis of some sort. Touching others, even at 4:15 A.M. helps, even if they can't touch back.

Wow.....I'd definitely have to agree with all the posters above me.....The people, comraderie, support, advice, fun, caring, love......and of course I could go on and on.....This is the best site with the best people around.

For me, at first it was the refreshing dose of sanity freely given by the "old timers" here when I was first diagnosed and was scared out of my wits. Then it also grew to include all the information that was so freely shared. Next, it grew to the feeling of community, including all the folks I now count as friends and family. Now it is growing into a sense that I can help some of the newcomers myself, what with a few years' experience at waiting. I know, too, that at some time in the future the reason will again grow to inculde the support I have learned that I can expect when I approach my own turn in surgery.
This is all in addition to the wonderful people I've met here (you all know who you are, even if you're not posting very often right now. . . ).
I can't imagine where I'd be without valvereplacement.com. Thank you Hank, Ross, Nancy, Granbonny, Gina, Cort,. . . . and so very many others.

Time and time again, this wonderful site has helped me get through some very difficult things with Joe's heart and valve related health. It's the one place I can go and talk about Joe's problems and know that at least one person will understand what the heck I'm talking about.
It's a super group of people and like family.

my name is Chris and I am a VR.comaholic. ;)
I have tried and tried to get away from the site, as my doctors have told me to not "become" my valve disease and to stay off of support group sites. However, that is easy for them to say - they with their healthy hearts and no major health problems. A person needs to know that they are not alone.
With Vr.com I do not feel so alone and I get the empathy here that I so strongly desire in this new phase of my life, living with a heart condition.
So, all-in-all, I guess you could say I love VR.com for the people and the inspiration and the love.
P.S. I also just can't get enough of Ross!! :D

Why I love VR in 25 words or less. Because it's:
informative, enlightening, hilarious, infuriating, mind provoking, compassionate, loving, and relevant!

We have had soooo much support here! I love hearing from adults with valve replacements - gives me hope for Chloe's future! I also love the fact there are more 'heart mummies' on here now too. Hopefully I've been able to give back some support there too - and perhaps to others along the way.

I think is more of a LOVE/HATE relationship. You LOVE it here because of all the (well, almost all) wonderful folks and the aid and comfort they can provide. You HATE it here when you suddenly realize it is 3 AM, you have to get up at 4:30 AM to GO TO WORK and you've got at least 15 more threads that need answering!!!!!!!!
HUUUM!!!!!!

Based on experience and knowledge, with a lot of care and humor thrown in for good measure. I know I can always count on some of you for a laugh, (and I am so grateful for it)(thanks tonight to Danny, Karlynn, Mary and Christina!) and no matter what is going on for me, or those I love, it seems there is always someone here having a worse time. This makes me apreciate what I have, and be a little less self absorbed.I am not remotely religious, but I pray a lot here. I found myself thinking of many of you as friends in a matter of weeks! Special thanks to: Ross for getting me in here when I had trouble registering, and his devoted monitoring, Al for his expertise and referal, and Hank who'm I don't know, but understand is responsible for the site.As for the rest of you, I count you all as blessings in my life! Well, I think everything has already been said, just wanted to add my two cents!!! This forum has been a godsend to me, I had never been sick in my life and then WHAM, I just could not get a grip on what was happeneing to me. All of my questions (even stupid ones) were answered for me. The best part was after my surgery, I felt such a bond here, when I had the middle of the night blues I would just sit at my computer and read posts... Thanks to you all... Rose

I am here because at VR I am not a freak, not someone who people will talk about in my absence "Did you hear what happened to Sue...".
When I see the length of time some of you have survived, that gives me hope and encouragement.

...because even when you're pretty new to VR.com, it is easy to feel the compassion, intelligence and welcoming. And because there are so many people here who have traveled such a difficult road to face it with unrivaled bravery and then share it with honesty and openness. That's why! :)

Quite simply, after 11 years I was no longer the only one I knew that had a valve replacment. It was like finding a long lost branch of the family tree.

I'm with Karlynn. A year and a half after my surgery, I found this wonderful place, or at least the "embryo" of VR.Com, the e-mail group. For once, I could finally get some real information from real patients. The only people I had to converse with after my surgery were the bypass patients in my local hospital support group. Yes, we've all been through the same basic ordeal, but...I'll never forget the older gentleman who looked at me and asked if I really had an open heart surgery like he did. What do ya say to that?
Anyway, now that I've met several members, it makes it more real for me. Cyber hugs <<<<<>>>>>> to all of you.

I love this place because after I found out I would need OHS it gave me extensive valuable information and also hope. I spent 2 days reading many of the old threads relevant to my situation and feel so much more informed now and confident about my future. It helps so much to know there are others out there who understand what I am going through and to know there is a place to ask questions that I might have. The people that have been here for a long time and faithfully answer all the new questions deserve a huge congratulations for the amazing support and guidance they offer.

Not to hijack this thread but........when I was in for my first OHS (I was 27), I had a 15 year-old roomate named Christina. Christina and I clicked immediately and had a lot of fun on our tours of the hospital as we were part of a group who, besides us, consisted of 4 men who were all over 60. They kept looking at us like they were trying to figure out why we were on the tour with them as neither of us looked sick. However, none of them asked, just kept giving us annoyed looks when we talked and laughed.

Everyone has done a wonderful job of describing why they love VR.com. I know that it has kept me sane and allowed me to learn and vent without having to always involve my family. I know that I now have a new family I never dreamed that I would have!!
I don't know why, but when I read the title of the thread, the theme song from the old Cheers TV show came dancing into mind. I think it fits!!
" Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot. Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name. "

Daddy always sent my bro to the corn crib and my sister and me to the front porch to settle our arguments.
Did not, did not........

Ann,
Granddaddy gave up sending us to the corn crib. We would always wind up in a corn cob fight. OUCH!!!!!  Also, we were banned from the barn once after we (my cousin and I) laid in the feeding trough and waited until the mules showed up to eat. Granddaddy spend several days rounding up the mules after that stunt. :o After one summer it was surprising the bush that provided the switches could live from all the "pruning".  :p :p
DID TOO, DID TOO!!!!!!

I love VR.com for the following reasons:
The people here are so helpful, caring and so very re-assuring to me.;)
I've also learned how to navigate the site and have read so many warm and wonderful and so very helpful posts and threads. VR.com is like having the best support group in the world and I have benefited from this greatly!
(although maybe I've annoyed some...sorry) I feel so honored to be a member of such a loving community such as this.

I love VR.com because it is a gift from God. I was about to lose my mind and I am a member of the medical community. I prayed for help with my anxiety over my valve problem and God delivered me to VR.com. I also love it because I always believed you could understand the most about ailments BY LISTENING TO THE PATIENT and all you guys have proven me RIGHT. I pray for every last one of you guys every day whether you like it or not. Just so you know. :)
Take care. May the click be with my mechanical friends and I am still jealous of my click-less ones. :)
