I know the answer to this one because of a college class I took so I will refrain from giving the answer (not an easy one, guys). However, I will share the answer I came up with in the class which got me an A for effort.

The man left the water running when he went back to bed. When he woke he realized the water had caused the bathroom ceiling to fall into the shower below, killing his wife. When he looked out the window, he saw the life squad, who had brought his wife outside onto the front lawn to try and revive her but were unable to do so. He was so despondent (sp?) that he screamed and killed himself.

Does he wake up 12 hours later than he thinks it is, so it's actually night and therefore dark outside, and he thinks he's gone blind so shoots himself because he can't face living life as a blind person?

The man who killed himself after switching the light off (sorry - dont know how to do those little blue quote box thingys) was a lighthouse keeper!! hehehehe

Next...

Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice all live in the same house. Bob
and Carol go out to a movie, and when they return, Alice is lying dead
on the floor in a puddle of water and glass. It is obvious that Ted
killed her but Ted is not prosecuted or severely punished.
