As I said in an earlier post, our friend Ralph from church had his surgery on Thursday. Ralph is in his 70's and ended up with a triple bypass and a valve replacement, I'm not sure which one. I haven't been up to see him yet, because he is still in ICU and only family is permitted in to see him.

The first report I got Thurs night, was that the surgery went very well but the next one was not so good. Here's part of an email sent by his step-daughter on Friday:

"Ralph is in critical condition right now, they are working on getting his blood pressure up and back off on the heavy medicine. When he wakes up he is confused and disorientated. Please pray that his heart get strong and they can take him off the medicine and all the machines. He is in ICU and I am guessing that he will be there for another 24 hours. He has gained a lot of water weight and doesn't look very good. I know Ralph will pull through this...he will have a few tough days coming now."

I haven't heard anything since, but I'm sure I'll get more info in church tomorrow. Ralph hasn't signed up as a member yet...but perhaps he will in the near future. Add him to your prayer list please. Thank you

thanks for the update, Jean. I had quad bypass w/o valve replacement. Sounds like his body is kicking up a fuss. He has my thoughts and prayers while he gets on with this. Please let us know.

I sure will keep Ralph on my prayer list...

I was wondering how he had fared...

God Bless him and his family...

I am sure he has heaps more prayers coming his way from the sound of your church group...they seem a very supportive congregation...

Here's the latest update on Ralph. Looks like things are looking up for him...

"Ralph had a rough time in recovery from his heart surgery last Thursday, however this week-end he showed much improvement and now he has had all the tubes and machines taken off and also started on a liquid diet. He will probably be moving to the Telemetry Unit at the St. Cloud Hospital today (Monday), if all goes well. Pray for strength and continued healing. –Mary Ann "

Thanks Ann and Aussiegal for all your prayers. I'm hoping to be able to visit him soon. I'll let him know that he has people all over the world praying for him. He'll appreciate that. Thanks again!

Very happy to hear your friend is doing so much better. He's been through rough surgery and his body isn't happy about it. Sounds like he is definitely on the right track now.

Most of us gain a lot of weight during the surgery. I gained 15 pounds of water weight during my surgery. They weighed me several times to be sure I lost it before I went home. It comes off some people faster than others. It took me 4 days to lose most of it.
