View Full Version : Alcohol reactions?

Another question just popped into my head. I had a valve repair almost three weeks ago and am on the following drugs:

Plavix
Atenolol (just switched from Metoprolol)

I haven't really found anything on the internet as far as alcohol reactions with either of those drugs (just a couple warnings about drowsiness), and nothing was mentioned by my doctor. Has anyone else received warnings regarding these drugs? I am obviously very aware of the warnings regarding Coumadin, but why wouldn't the same warnings apply to Plavix? Thanks as always!

Plavix and Coumadin work in different ways. Plavix works similarly to aspirin, making the platelets "slipperier" so they do not stick together as readily. Coumadin interferes with the binding process of the glue that holds a clot together.

Plavix doesn't affect your INR. Nor does aspirin. But they do affect the body's tendency to clot.

Best wishes,
