I found the antiobiotic and warfarin thread so helpful, I book marked it for future use. Another medication that is on the horizon for Nathan is Lipitor. He was on it for very stubborn cholesterol (280 at one point) prior to endocarditis but had high liver enzymes while sick so it was dc'd. Is there a statin med that is least offending to the INR? Crestor maybe? That recent thread of the ER trip due to a 7 something INR makes me nervous!

Generally they have little effect on the INR. Crestor seems safe with warfarin.

Thank you Al. Would you recommend checking the INR a couple of times when starting the medication as you would an antibiotic as a preventative measure or is this just a wasted step?

I usually don't have people come in early for a check when starting these drugs. However, if the person feels like they want it done, I'll do it. One of my goals is to not have a person in a hospital bed looking up at me and saying, "I told you that you should have checked it sooner."
