My daughter's best friend started driving from Chicago this morning, so she could accompany us on our Thanksgiving trek to my sister's. All of her family lives out of state.
She received a phone call on the way notifying her that her brother, who has been very depressed, killed himself, his wife, and their two children during the night.
Please keep all that are involved in your prayers.

Mary,
What sad, sad news. I will pray for your friend and the family so horribly touched by this tragedy.
It is so hard to understand how some people shine during tough times and others simply fall apart. What a shame that this man felt he needed to take others with him.

She is going to go ahead and accompany us.
Her parents, who are divorced, are her only family, and they have flown to Houston. The bodies won't be released for several days, due to the circumstances, so basically they're marking time, waiting to accompany their son's body back to Missouri. We are Shelley's family for the next few days.
None of us have ever dealt with a situation like this, so we will play it by ear and be supportive whatever happens.

I am so sorry to hear that terrible news Mary! Shelley could not be in better hands with you though and I'm sure you will instinctively know what to do to help her, whether that be hugs, talking or just being there to listen when she needs you. Shes in the best place!
Love to you all

Mary. How lucky she is to have you. Your strength has shown through alot on this forum so I know you will be open arms and a good strong rock to lean on.
My oldest childhood friend (best, when we were 3) committed suicide 6 years ago. Her teen-aged son found her. Gun shot through the heart. She had barricaded herself in her room and there was so much drama. Her mother went under, she was in complete denial, couldn't face the truth. It was the most difficult thing of my life (and I was hardly involved).
Your situation, of course, is amplified by the alleged murders. The guilt the family will try to bear will be enormous. There will be so much inner turmoil. I would highly recommend having an avenue open for some professional help for your daughter's friend, and maybe your daughter. We have hearts which are being fixed by surgeons. These broken hearts do not mend as well and the pain can be excruciating and long lasting.
I'm so sorry. So sad. My very best thoughts go out to you and your friends.

the same thing happened here two weeks ago. Man killed his 11 yo daughter, himself and meant to kill his wife, but she survived a blast to the neck and is out of the hospital now. Same weekend another man did the same thing. What is going on in this world?
I feel so sorry for this family.. They are all in my prayers. Mary, I am sure you will do what you can for this young lady.
