View Full Version : Homecoming planned for Monday

My surgery was 2 weeks ago today. My, how the time does fly! ;) Since having been released from the hospital Monday, I have spent this week in a skilled nursing facility for some physical & occupational therapy. I continue to make amazing progress. So much so, that I have decided to go home Monday. I think the therapists would prefer to keep me here a bit longer, but I just feel WAY too good to be in this glorified nursing home. Granted, I have a long ways to go, but am confident I am ready to move on. The therapies will continue be provided in my home. Thank you Regence Blue Cross! My wife has 2 more weeks off work, so I will be in good hands. The issue I worried SO much about, of me needing to use my arm muscles to some extent to stand, due to my dystrophy, seems to be manageable. It does hurt a bit to push off using my walker, but not bad! My incision is healing beautifully, & my heart & lungs sound great! By the way, I received a Carpentier-Edwards PERIMOUNT model 2700 aortic 25mm. #1608 off the line. MOOOOOO!!

I can remember how full of joy I felt when they said I could go. They had been telling me a month to two before I would be ready. I told everyone here that called me that this was unacceptable to me and that I'd be out in ten days. I was!!!!

Wonderful, wonderful news. Just being home will make things look differently and will brighten your spirits (although they seem to be fine already). I will pray that things continue to go your way.

I can't begin to express the joy I felt when the car pulled into the driveway today, & I was home at last! I have a long way to go still, but I am finally back where I wanted to be so very badly last week. I have a new appreciation for the simple things. It's all VERY good at this point. I'm confident my strength will continue to come back to me. Nice to look back at that mountain & know I DID IT!

I believe it was Robthatsme who said, some years ago, that he/we look at life in a whole new light - softer, gentler, perhaps. We just don't take everything for granted anymore. Nearly all of us agreed with him. This subject is discussed from time to time.

Glad to know you are home and happy.

Glad you are home. We have been watching your progress. Ed had avr and bypass same day as you. He has an Edwards Lifesciences Model 3000 23 MM, right off the rack as well. Maybe there was a special going on that week for Edwards valves. Anyway, we know your homecoming will be even more instrumental in your continuing recovery. It's slow but I see just a little improvement in Ed every day. You guys have come a long way , but can now look back at that mountain.

It must have been a good summer for Edwards ( I received their model 3000, 21mm), but a bad one for the cows. ;)

George,
I'm glad that you've made it back home. Continued good luck and good wishes along the way.

I looked for an update yesterday but must have zoned out. Anyway, welcome home. I know I cried when we pulled into our driveway after my last OHS. I was just so happy to be in a place where no strangers were watching my every move.

Hope things continue to do increasingly well.

I love the short play, "Our Town". It meant even more to me after my surgery. I highly recommend it because it reminds us of how precious "ordinary life" is. Everything, and everyone has looked more beautiful to me since my AVR surgery this August.

I remember how good it felt to bring Curtis home from the hospital, he recovered so much better in is own suroundings. You must be made-up to be home. Keep up the good recovery, all the best Paula x
