Hi everyone! Just wanted to give my 10 day update (it seems) on my Mother.
She is doing fine. Because of the recent temperature changes in the Boston area, she has come down with the sniffles. Taking her off the Prevacid was a smart idea. The diarrea has stopped altogether. Thank you for the people who responded to last weeks issue. She is slowly getting her appetite back! And she is continuing to lose the weight!

I did spoil her over the weekend by giving her some seafood and as a result, her legs swelled up again. But rest assured, the lasix as well as the special tight stockings are working and the fluid from that area has gone down! -AGAIN!

With each passing day, Mother is getting stronger. However, a new issue has arised. Not pertaining to her health. My brother Victor has had sugar diabeties (sp) for many years now. One of his feet is very painful and it has come to the point where his own doctor might have to amputate his foot. My Mother does not know of this yet. I feel like I should tell her. But I don't want to upset her. I feel guilty holding this in. But for her own good, Something inside of me is saying, ''don't tell her''

8 weeks out of OHS. Should I tell her?

Why don't you wait until a definitive answer is reached? There's no sense in worrying her when it might not come to pass. :)

Glad to hear your mom is doing better. I think you did well with the seafood even with the swelling. Treats are needed now and then.

I agree with Mary. Wait until a definite decision has been made for your brother and then tell your mom. She shouldn't have to worry needlessly.

I am so glad to hear she is coming along. Some of us take a bit longer than others when there are some complications. We were praying that she'd advance and now she has. Give her a hug.

I agree that until there is something definite to reveal, don't say anything.

Good news! MY brother does not need to have his foot amputated after all! It was the medications that was causing the severe pain. He will be just fine!
After the coast was clear, I did however tell my Mother of what could have happened. At first, she had a horrific look on her face but now she has come to terms with it. And she is fine. Yesterday, was the 2 month anniversary of her surgery. Hard to believe time flies in situations like this.
The next obstacle, is for her to walk without the walker. Hopefully, this can be done by years end.
Thanks for all the advice and support!

I'm glad it turned out ok for your brother.
I was faced with a similar issue last Fall with my mother. She was very ill with cancer and was worried about my valve problems. I chose to downplay everything to spare her worry, and I'm glad I did.
It's hard to deal with your own health issues without the additional worry of your loved one's illness.
