Howdy all,

anyone ever heard of Wilson's Disease, or know anyone who has/had it?

I've been going to see a Neurologist, and last month she took some blood and it came back with a high copper level. Now I'm being checked for Wilson's Disease. I've done some reading on WD but I'm just wondering how many people out there have ever actually heard of this disease. And does anyone know anything else, heart related, or not, that would give a high copper reading in your blood?

From what I've read, WD is eventually fatal without proper treatment. I think this is the first time I've ever had my blood checked for copper. For something so life threatening, why wouldn't they check for copper regularly? Idunno, it just seems odd.

Have you had your blood copper checked lately?

Thanks for the link Yaps. I hadn't read that one.

Judging by the enthusastic replies, I guess no one else has ever heard of it either.

Leave it to me to possibly get something THAT rare. :P

I'd never heard of it either, but funnily enough just today I read an article about a young American boy who was killed in Italy. His organs were donated, and one of the recipients (she got his liver) had Wilson's Disease - she's now fine.
Don't imagine that's much help though!
