View Full Version : Where in the World are VR members?

Hurricane Katrina has made me wonder where our members are located. I've posted a poll that attempts to group states regionally, but it is ROUGH! Everyone vote and let other members know what state you live in. :)
You can view member's names by putting your cursor over the number voting :( for each option. I only learned that about three weeks ago!
I 'll start off by voting for Missouri! Come on Show Me State!

I've also included an option for Canada and one for members living somewhere besides North America. Everyone vote and let other members know what state you live in. :)

Sorry about the delay in getting the poll up. I lost a state and had to go back and find it! (and no, it wasn't on the Gulf Coast)
Don't forget, you can view members by placing your cursor over the number that have responded to each option. :) Then, if you're unsure about who the member is, click on their name and their profile will come up in a another window! Pretty Neat!! :)

I've been in FL for 19 years, but I'm still a native Indiana Hoosier at heart. Took kind of a round-about route to FL: After I graduated from school I did stints in NJ, NY, OH, NJ (again), NC, then finally FL.
We've managed to dodge the hurricanes so far, but fear our turn is coming one of these days. Our house is almost 4 miles from the water but only 15' above the normal high tide level. Seeing the scenes of the Gulf Coast is pretty scary.

I'm from the great state of Georgia, the good old U S of A :D . Not that other Georgia across the ocean far, far away :D :D .
I was born and raised in Georgia but was displaced by the DRAFT (ANYONE REMEMBER THOSE DAYS) in 1967  . I was a resident of Georgia even while I was in the military. In 1993, I retired and moved back to Georgia, 9 miles from where I originally lived. Talk about a circle :D . One person who was helping us pack for our move back to Georgia said something to the effect: "Guess this will make you look forward to your next move". To which I replied, "The next time I move will be FEET FIRST out the back door." :D :D Guess its not my time to move on yet, although in January I came a little closer than I wanted right now    . Got too many Grandkids to spoil  :D .
One thing that comes to mind about our membership: "THE'RE EVERYWHERE, THE'RE EVERYWHERE". I look forward to the days when our group turns into the ones that took a pill (or no worse than a shot) to fix their heart problems. Hope I'm around to witness that.
May God Bless,
Danny

I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky and still consider it home. My parents (who are in their eighties) and most of my family still live there, so I get home quite a bit. The reason I still consider it home is because since I married almost 34 years ago, my husband and I have lived in Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, Washington, Tennessee, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Maryland, back to Georgia, and then two years ago moved here to Florida. All of these moves were thanks to Uncle Sam (my husband was in ROTC at the U. of Alabama) and S.C. Johnson...a family company. So it's hard for me to say any place is home except good ole' Kentucky! Seen a lot of this beautiful country though and made a lot of good friends.

Immigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1968 and lived in Barrie, twin cities Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge, (called Galt at the time). Moved back to The Netherlands in 1973 but packed my things again in 1976 and immigrated back to Ontario, Canada. In 1977 I met my second husband and moved south to beautiful Tucson AZ. and am here to stay.

They say we are in Southern Illinois. I think anything south of Cook County in Illinois is Southern Illinois.
I grew up in Central Illinois (Normal), went to college at Il State U. with a bunch of Chicago area kids. My husband grew up in the Chicago area. I always tell him that people in the Chicago area are shocked when they look at a map of Illinois and see all the land to the south of Chicago.
My town had 2 universities, 4 corporate headquarters and the most millionaires per capita of any town in the USA when I was growing up. To hear the "commuters" from Chicago talk - I grew up in Little House on the Prairie.

Last night's tornado that struck S. Indiana, N. Kentucky, and SW Ohio made me wonder again where everyone is located. I resurected this thread to take a look at the locations members had posted.
My guess is the members who would be most affected are Sherry, ccrawford,
momshell7, and Hayden. Geebee has posted that they got severe storms in Ohio, but I think they escaped the damage that hit the other areas.
I don't know if the poll is still open, but if it is, I'd like to encourage new members to vote for their location.

Hayden should be too far south to be affected and momshell7 too far north. I am not sure about ccrawford but I am really worried about Sherry as she was right in the path. I think Sherrin Hut was also in the area. We were in the path also but the tornado ran out of steam before it made it to Cincinnati (and no others formed) so we lucked out this time. I am not looking forward to tonight as it is lining up to be another "Sleepless in Ohio". Hope to hear from Sherry & Sherrin soon.

The house my wife and I had up there was built in 1948, we bought it from the original owner. As far as affordable - hmm, the house I have in GA is five times larger and almost the same price.
Hicksville was named after Elias Hicks who was born in 1748.

Our biggest claim to fame is that Lucille Ball was born and raised here...we just had our LucyFest celebration. Mary,
It looks as though our new members' names and locations are showing, so that's good.:)
I'm guessing that members who are no longer active (don't show up as members anymore in the member's list) lost their display name when the list was updated and members were removed. The poll still records that they voted, but doesn't record who they were.
I just looked checked one area for a member's name who was banned . . . he was on it before, but he's gone now.:eek:I think that's the answer!

Mary,
It looks as though our new members' names and locations are showing, so that's good.:)
You are 100% correct. Members that have been purged are still showing on the poll as guests.

I was born in New York, then moved to Florida when my father semi-retired in 1976. In 1979 at age 18 I joined the Navy. During my time in the Navy I was stationed at
Orlando Naval Training Center
Great Lakes
Camp Lejeune
Orlando again
Bethesda Naval Hosp.
Great Lakes again
San Diego
Subic Bay Philippines(where I met my wife Leonita)
I left the Navy in 1989. While in the Navy I remained a registered voter in Florida, using my parents address as my home.
Since 1989, I've lived in Palm Beach County FL, more specifically Lantana. In 1998 the wife and I moved, but it was a short one. About 1 mile in distance as the crow flies.
Travel wise I been to all 50 states if only briefly in a half dozen cases. Internationally I've traveled to Philippines, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, England, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland.

Born and raised in the the Greater Metro area of Denver, CO. I've never lived anywhere else! Lots of sunshine, 4 distinct seasons, beautiful mountain scenery.
I don't know too many other states that have the varied topography that Colorado does. NE we have the prairie, lots of farmland, SE has Rocky Ford melons!! Whoo hooo!. On the western slope it's very much desertlike (think Arizona and Utah). Palisade (near Grand Junction) grows some of the best peaches in the world. Then of course we have the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Skiing, fishing, camping, hiking, rock climbing...it's all here.
PLUS Denver is almost unique in that all 5 professional sports have a team here...The Broncos (NFL), The Rockies (MLB), The Avalanche (NHL), The Rapids (Soccer), The Nuggets (NBA) plus we have the Mammoth - professional Lacrosse.
There is a thriving arts community here. Theater, museums, symphony...it's a great place to live.
I don't often get to spout off about my home state. Thanks for the opportunity!!
