Both heading on in the Tourny! Living in Illinois and having a daughter at MSU gives us a lot to cheer about.

Now I must go remove my heart from my throat and push it back in my chest after the U of I squeaker in OT.

Karlynn,
I understand completely! We're from Illinois; half my family attended U of I.
And, I'm playing in a Yahoo Fantasy Tournament (NCAA) and I've got U of I winning EVERYTHING. I was almost in heart failure tonight.
But, they pulled it off. Go ILLINI!

Wow, that was something, wasn't it? None of us are U of I fans, and we were all glued to the t.v.

I'm very torn right now, because I want Illinois to win it all--and of course, who do they play next? Our hometown team, University of Louisiville. Both of today's games were amazing. I almost turned off the Illinois game, yes, me of little faith!!! That was some comeback, though.
And, I may have to ask for some forgiveness here--because one of our patients who got discharged a few weeks ago told me he and his wife have tickets to the final four. During the over time, I prayed more than once for him to get to see his alma mater (illinois) play in the final four. Maybe not the greatest thing to pray for but I'll bet he's beside himself tonight. Now he just has to stay healthy this week (he's about a month plus post stem cell transplant).

I have to admit I am not a basketball fan (other than watching my niece play junior varsity). However, I am in a pool at work and have Illinois winning the whole shooting (pun intended :D) match.

Illinois is the only team I picked that is still in the lineup. So, yeah, Illinois - win that championship even for those of us who only watch once a year.

Well, Nova made it to the tourney but NC did them in. CAN'T WE GET A CHAMPION AROUND HERE? Smarty Jones, the Eagles, Nova, it's the land "almost" around here. Hoppy Easter anyway! Yes I said Hoppy.

Karlynn,
I'm happy too! My obnoxious nephew picked Ky to go all the way, so I had to rejoice in Michigan's win!
I know; very uncharitable, and I apologize in advance to all the legion of Kentucky VR members.
But I am HAPPY!

LOL, you're forgiven! I worked this weekend so we were keeping tabs on the score, plus stealing chances to see bits of the game as we went into patient's rooms. The patient in the room nearest to where we were at the nurse's station was a UK fan since he would cheer when the got ahead. I knew MSU was doing well when he got quiet....I got more than one strange look when I cheered for Mich State. I'm thrilled they got this far. Most of the UK fans are pretty irrational about their team, so I was kind of taking my life in my hands cheering for someone else!
I just wish the Ohio State women hadn't lost to Rutger's today in the women's NCAA. Oh well!

Yes, I teach in KY, and what a somber day it was in the halls of my high school. Not only did KY lose, but it was the first day back after spring break.

Yes, there were alot of long faces leaving the hospital last night.

OK, you guys.

The games were amazing! I am really looking forward to the final four. The skies are Carolina Blue over our house even though my husband went to Michigan State before having his collegiate experience interrupted by the Vietnam war and our wedding.

I'll be thinking of you all this week-end! Go tarheels! :D

Once, years ago, I had a patient in a cardiac step-down unit that extended her MI(heart attack area) by getting so worked up over a game that she was watching in her hospital room. I can understand how it can happen.

Betty,
Normally I'm a NC fan myself. I have to go with Illinois this time, but I won't be too terribly disappointed if NC or Michigan wins. :)

On behalf of my daughter I have to make a correction. Because she is ALWAYS correcting me on it. :) It's Michigan STATE, not Michigan (I was just saying Michigan to shorten the remarks.) There is a huge rivalry between the two schools. Michigan (University of) has the good football teams, and MSU, or State as they call it in Michigan, is the basketball school.

If Illinois and Michigan State make it to the finals, there could be a huge turf war in our neighborhood. Or best friends that live nextdoor are very active Illinois supporters (athletic supporters :D )

I'm a Kentucky fan all the way. So, rather disheartened still, I am, I am. I don't believe in knocking someone else's team. Do what you wish, but being a Kentucky fan is not obnoxious. As much as I dislike Louisville, I'll never call their fans obnoxious. A team's fans are their reason for being. I say Illinois all the way!!!!! (That's only because I grew up in northern Indiana, listened to WLS in Chicago as a teen, and just kind feel they're somewhat a home team for me). I hope they have a lot of fight left in them.

So do a lot of us (hope they have fight left in them).

I've heard 2 "trains of thought" on that issue.

1) They do...as evidenced by the amazing comeback Saturday evening....

2) They don't ... because that miracle comeback took a lot of energy out of them....

*shrugs*

I'm, of course, hoping for #1...but, well, it's been a wild ride this year...no matter what happens the next few days :).

I just have a feeling they're up for the fight. Could be wrong, and hope I'm not, especially since I know that Louisville is up for the fight. I remember Kentucky's last national championship. It was hard to believe that had it in them to get that far, and come from way behind in most of the games (if I remember correctly). Illinois is certainly a more talented team than that Kentucky team, so they have that going for them. Louisville doesn't really have a strong inside game, which may be good for Illinois also. Anyway, that's just speculation, but hopeful speculation.

I'm happy! :) Illinois made history tonight (first time they made the semifinals in 100 years!) I'm on my way back to watch the next game to see who they'll play Monday night.

Go Illini!

Sure hope my daughter's not in the midst of trouble tonight at MSU. So disappointing for State, but the Tarheels just outplayed them.

But I'll also be watching Monday night too. Go Illini. Sorry Betty, still have to root for the other team.

Congrats to both winners tonight.

Should be a humdinger of a game. Don't know if I'll see it though, but it should be a nailbiter.

Very true.... I was rooting for MSU, but, ah well...at least one of my 2 fav teams got in...the most important one, of course ;).

Sitting in a room full of Illini fans, I had to pretend I agreed with you Cort. With a lot of our money going to State, I had to hope!

An interesting  tidbit. My daughter called at midnight to say she was staying at a friends apartment. She had watched the game and was walking back across campus to her dorm (thankfully with one of her very large friends who's an offensive lineman for State's football team) when they saw a cloud of something heading their way. Their eyes started to sting and their throats began to burn a bit, so they ran like crazy back to the apartment since it was closer than the dorm. I guess to try and stave off any riots, such as what occured a few years back, the police decided to be proactive and pulled out the tear gas. I don't know what was going on where, and neither did my daughter. Will be interesting to find out. She's fine now. I guess they kept rinsing their eyes with water and are suffering no ill effects.

*eyes Karlynn suspiciously*

You had to PRETEND to agree with me?

*shakes head*

Wrong statement, there, dearie...heh.

As for that "interesting tidbit"....did they ever call the police to find out what exactly that was? I can't imagine that that would be completely legal...to put something in the air like that without warning. For all they knew, it could've been terrorism....

Yes, it was indeed tear gas. We saw a clip on the news of them dispersing about 500 students with it. When State won in 2000 they had a big celebration that turned into a riot. They've been very sensitive about that type of thing ever since. Understandably since State has over 40,000 students.

I can certainly understand the sensitivity. Still... I don't know...seems to me that this may be one of those "gray line" items...where you're darned if you do, darned if you don't....

Glad to know it was only tear gas...and not a form of terrorism. Though, I think that idea would scare me out of my mind...he he he.
