This is an obscure question, but does anyone know how much vit. K leeks have???

I've started reading a book called French Women Don't Get Fat and it's about adjusting your way of eating. She recommends "cleansing" your system for a weekend by eating leeks, or leek soup (which she give a really yummy sounding recipe for.)

I certainly wouldn't want to dose my system with K (much like my peppermint tea incident.)

Karlynn, I love this book.... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0071373381/qid=1111377195/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/002-9604993-2258460

it's called the Nutrition Almanac by Lavon Dunne. It's fairly current, 2001, but how much do these values change? Almost anything is broken down into vitamin and mineral, fat, carb, etc. measurements per serving. THere is a wealth of other info regarding what vitamins and minerals to use with certain ailments and conditions. My son took it to college and I've been meaning to get myself another copy (tonight!!) I can't be certain that Vitamin K is listed in the charts in back. Can you go by a Barnes and Noble or Borders and look for it? You'll want to puruse the charts in the last half of the book.

Well, I just spent 20 minutes looking over several French diet books on Amazon!! They look fun. Might order the one called The Fat Fallacy : The French Diet Secrets to Permanent Weight Loss. Your book also sounded fun! I might order that too!! I'll keep an eye out on this thread and see what you do!! :D

I wouldn't worry if I was adding them every so often, but this book suggested doing nothing but consuming leeks for a weekend to "cleanse" the system. I guess leeks are a natural diuretic, so it would also be a weekend of leaks. :D

I'll probably skip this part, since I'm more interested in just straightening out my eating and shedding a few pounds is secondary.

You have a darling wit! Anyway, I certainly have no experience with diet/coumadin, but don't you suspect that eating nothing but one thing, no matter what that thing is, is going to be a potential problem? The body works on kind of a balance of chemistry. I'm not sure it would be worth the shock to your system to do something so dramatic. I would caution against any single ingredient (dish) for a whole weekend! Just my 2 cents.

I also saw the author of the book on TV. Sounds very interesting. Perhaps you will share recipes with us from the book. I did come across an old Vitamin K chart from the USDA that shows 100 grams (3-1/2 oz) of leeks contain l4mg of Vitamin K. Hope this helps.
