This is a first for me. I am not computer savvy so bear with me.
I have an Aunt who has been recently hospitalized for CHF and she is COPD. She is currently in the hospital and was told that she has to have Valve Replacement Surgery or she will not live past six months. My Aunt is not a big woman. She is tiny and weak. She had a stent put in back in 1994, and has had two heart attacks during that time. I don't know any more about her clinical history as she is my husband's Aunt, but have grown to love her dearly. My question is -- With her being COPD and having two bouts with CHF, what are her chances of making it through this kind of surgery? and before this last bout with CHF, she had been very active outside and with her church and family. Will she be able to resume a more satisfied quality of life before she became ill (depending on how she does post operative)???
I am a christian woman as well as my family and any prayers anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou kindly,
Cassandra :(

Hello Cassandra and welcome to the forum.

What are her chances of survival? Only God knows. I have pretty much the same deal and I had a very hard time with both of my surgeries. I made it!

They'll test her lung function and such before even scheduling surgery. If there is any doubt, they will not do it. All in all, she has a very good chance of coming through just fine.

Welcome to Valve Replacement, Cassandra. Please let your aunt know that there are many of us thinking of her and sending prayers. As Ross says, only God knows for sure. But several have had a really rough time and are still with us. Please stay with us, ask all sorts of questions - someone will attempt to fill you in as much as we can. How old is she? Blessins.......
