While VR is not directly concerned with general heart disease, there is a page/site where you can learn so much about the heart - including valve issues. You might like to have a look:

Thanks for the additional information. I found out yesterday that I do indeed need surgery. My Cardio doc says I have severe regurg and a totally collapsed mitral valve. So now it is into the prep time. Seeing to the financial end of things today, and then I guess we schedule the angiogram that is to precede the actual surgery. Docs office is saying to me that the Doctor is hoping to have this done within the month. My heart is strong, which is a good thing. Just darn vavle wants to take the stage. :p If anyone has some other helpful information I would sure appreciate it. ie like what kind of vavle you all are thinking is the best. Metal versus tissue. You know that sort of thing. Thanks Laurie :p :p

I know how you feel about your pending surgery and if you think I might be able to help you sort out your doubts just let me know. I've had three mitral valve replacements already as a result of rheumatic fever and should be having my fourth sometime in the future. Near or far, only God knows!! Anyway, in all cases, I've had a tissue valve put in. The first two times, dura-mater and last time which was nine years ago, (pericardium bovine bioprosthetic cardioprothesis valve). Well, I'm well aware of the pros and cons of the mech and tissue vlaves and I have decided to go for yet another tissue one next time. We've had a good few discussions about it on this site and it's a very personal choice for each individual has his/her reasons for choosing what fits in best in his/her situation. I'm sure lots of members will come forward with their opinion. I'm getting an echo and EKG done tomorrow and the good thing is that I'll find out right away what the results will be because the cardio will see me soon afterwards. Take care and get in touch!
